About
Artist Statement:
In my latest works, I explore various focus regions, all under the thematic umbrella of “a new light,” with a significant emphasis on the interplay of light. As a Toowoomba-based creative, I specialize in traditional realism and impressionism in watercolor, drawing inspiration from diverse influences and real-world experiences. My artistic journey, initially challenged by the dichotomy between practical life and artistic passion, eventually led me to embrace the less trodden path, where I discovered the transformative power of light on our lives.
My focus extends beyond the mastery of techniques borrowed from modern watercolor greats. I aim to merge observed expertise with my unique voice, inviting audiences to witness a fusion of tradition and originality. Starting with safe, easily achievable options, my artistic journey has evolved into a continuous quest for new frontiers, challenges, and advanced skills.
“Art talks to those who listen,” and I strive to make my narrative distinctive and worth listening to. The journey of a creator involves exploring the unknown, diving headfirst into challenges, and embracing obstacles as opportunities for growth. For me, subjects can be found anywhere, inside or outside the box, as long as they are connected with a sense of light and unveil stories transcending the ordinary.
Goals:
Initiating my art journey, I sought safe options and beginners’ success. However, the real work began when I realized there were more challenges and another crest to climb. Art, for me, is an ongoing contest, and I constantly seek new venues for exhibitions and workshops. There’s always another crest that cannot be reached, prompting me to “look beyond the postcard” and explore the unknown.
Mission:
My artistic journey began in 2002 when a workshop with artist Robert Wade OAM opened my eyes to the possibilities. Self-taught, I am grateful for the guidance of renowned Australian artists who shaped my early years. A love for the outdoors dominates my preferred subject matter, but I increasingly delve into the stories within. Exhibiting a love for valour in art, I believe artists must seek new frontiers to evolve continually.
Vision:
Currently, my focus is that of a storyteller, emphasizing mood, atmosphere, and the pursuit of light. Engaging in exhibitions, workshops, and teaching, I find that teaching makes me a better artist, fostering an atmosphere of positivity for my students and inspiring me to achieve new levels in my own work.
